Air Pumps and Aeration

Free delivery on qualifying UK mainland orders over £50

Air pumps & airstones are essential in hydroponics systems. They keep your nutrient solution aerated with a fine supply of dissolve oxygen and allow the maximum amount of oxygen available to the roots. Roots require access to water, nutrients, and oxygen to function properly, so having the right amount of dissolved oxygen in your nutrient solution will facilitate its uptake. Air Pumps and Aeration

While plant’s leaf surfaces need CO2, the roots require access to oxygen to function properly. Pump as much air through your nutrient solution to secure a high amount of dissolved oxygen - facilitating your plant’s growth and reducing the chances of bad bacteria taking hold.

You're most likely to use your air pump in conjunction with a air stone - It will make the air bubbles smaller and more uniform so there’s a larger surface area for the oxygen to be absorbed into the water.

We recommend housing your air pumps outside of the growing environment to reduce the chances of pumping CO2 into the water. As CO2 is dissolved into the nutrient solution, the acidity will increase as carbonic acid is formed.

How to Use:

Air pumps come with 4mm fittings as standard so you should use 4mm air line tubing to connect up your pumps to air stones.

Ideally you’ll run your air pumps 24/7 to make sure the nutrient solution is always aerated; even during lights off.
