What is the Telos Pro Mesh LED Grow Light?

The Grow Northern (GN) Telos Pro Mesh LED Grow light is a new, feature-packed LED grow light that builds on the popular success of the Telos 10. The Telos mesh is a secure, precise and wireless control solution that enables you to control your lights from outside the grow room.


Garden tip: The Driver is also available as an upgrade kit for existing Telos 6 and Telos 10 LED grow lights.


Telos Driver Upgrade Kit

The Mesh Upgrade Kits include either a 200W or 320W mesh-integrated waterproof driver, with high quality IP66 rated connectors. The driver comes with a 4mm hex screwdriver to swap it out, complete with clear instructions.


If you want to upgrade your Telos 10, you'll want the 320W mesh driver. If you want to upgrade your Telos 6, you'll want the 200W mesh driver.


How Does The Telos Mesh Work?

The Telos Mesh system works by using the latest Bluetooth® Mesh standard for communications. Telos mesh is an “offline” and “decentralised” network, meaning it doesn’t require a router or an internet connection. Each light within the network has a latest gen microprocessor and functions like a small computer with its own independent operating system. This allows connected lights to communicate together without a Wi-Fi connection.


When you create a new network from your phone or smart device, this creates new network encryption keys and addresses. Each light that you add to a network, stores all the addresses and network settings. This means that once you’ve set the network up, you don’t need to stay in range for schedules and dimming levels to continue to work. Each light has a range of around 50-metres and can talk to any other lights on that network within that range. Every light you add increases the strength and range of the network as it works on a repeater basis, passing on and relaying messages between the lights.


Is the Mesh Network Secure?

When Telos were designing the Telos Pro Mesh, privacy and security were at the core of the design. They wanted to ensure that all commands are sent with end-to-end encryption. Firstly, they put you in control, with the Bluetooth functionality. Bluetooth is only activated by you using the touchpad.


When Bluetooth is activated, you have around 30 seconds to connect it to the network. When connected, the system stop broadcasting (advertising). Broadcasting is important for most Bluetooth devices, like headphones. This is what allows it to find and connect to devices. Once added to a network, there’s no need to disconnect and reconnect later, the then device switches permanently from “advertising” to “listening mode”. This is where it is in a network and is constantly listening (scanning) for encrypted messages sent from the app. Being in listening mode means that you can’t find devices using Bluetooth sniffers or Bluetooth listening devices. Only connected devices can talk to an encrypted network, using the network's encryption key.


If the network login or smart device that created the network is lost, you'll need to reset each light on the network using the touchpad. Although this could be a long process, it guarantees the privacy and security of the network.


Garden tip: There is an additional option for backing encryption keys and mesh setting to the cloud. This is useful for larger projects when multiple devices need access to the mesh controls.

What are the Benefits of Telos Mesh?

Telos mesh drivers are the world’s first Bluetooth-integrated waterproof drivers for horticulture. When paired with the Telos Mesh software, they provide revolutionary new functionality for you as a grower.


Traditionally, controllers use physical cables to daisy chain a limited number of units together. Telos mesh employs a completely wireless solution to help you reduce the set-up time and the amount of clutter within the grow area. Without the need to use control cables means you have less to do to control your grow room lighting network.


The ability to purchase the Mesh driver separately, as a spare, means you can upgrade your existing Telos 6 or Telos 10 LED grow lights. This allows you to keep your Telos LEDs right up-to-date with the latest in grow room technology.

Mesh App - Fine Lighting Control at your Fingertips

With Precise PPF™ specifying the exact PPF output of your Telos LED is as simple as sliding your finger across your mobile device's screen. The mobile app allows you to set the exact PPF without being limited to increments.


To achieve the requested PPF level, the system takes into account the changes in LED efficiency at the required wattage and the lifetime degradation of the LED performance to calculate the exact power output needed. Compared with a 0-10v dimming system, this is a much more accurate and repeatable solution for growers looking for repeatability and performance.


The app also displays the active power consumption and efficiency at different output settings.


App Functionality and Benefits

The app allows for simple light grouping, allowing you to have multiple groups within the same mesh network. It allows you to create Schedules, which allows you to turn the lights off and on throughout the day, with separate schedules that can be applied to different groups of lights within the same network.


Separate PPF Settings for Different Groups

You can also apply separate PPF settings to different groups of lights. These combined functions are really useful for advanced growers who will be able to control multiple tents with plants at different stages of the lifecycle using the same smart device.


Sunrise and Sunset Mode

The app brings you an integrated sunrise and sunset mode which helps the plants to wake up and acclimatise slowly when the light period starts. When it’s time for the lights to switch off again the simulated sunset helps to smooth out temperature changes within the grow area, making it easier to maintain the correct environment for your plants.


Garden tip: During the colder months, large temperature swings can result in condensation from warm air meeting the cold outer wall on grow tents. This is can lead to mould and mildew problems, inside grow rooms. To help avoid this problem, it is a good idea to set a tube heater to come on around 30 minutes before lights out to help avoid condensation and mould/mildew problems.


Additional Features

The Mesh system also includes an offline mode so that you can control your Telos LED without connecting to the app. Pressing the integrated touch sensor on the side of the driver allows you to cycle through the pre-set PPF output levels, suitable for propagation, veg and flower.
