What is Westland Sulphate of Iron?

Westland Sulphate of Iron is ideal for acidifying your soils pH to suit any Ericaceous or acid-loving plants. It also contains immediately available Iron to promote plant growth.

How Does Westland Sulphate of Iron - Ericaceous Plant Food Benefit My Plants?

Sulphate of iron acidifies your soil, enabling special acid-loving plants to take up the nutrients they need for healthy growth and development.

For these specialist, acid loving plants, if the soil pH becomes too alkaline, they suffer severe deficiencies. Acid loving plants require a lower pH soil to access the nutrients they need. Sulphate of iron lowers the soil pH (acidifies it) and unlocks the nutrients from the soil to your acid loving plants. It works best for rhododendrons, camellias, azaleas and hydrangeas, as well as for acid loving fruits, such as blueberries.

Sulphate of Iron helps to create the right conditions for healthy plant growth, keeping leaves green and healthy and preventing leaf yellowing.

How Do I Use Westland Sulphate of Iron?

For comparison purposes, while you're out in the garden: one handful of garden lime soil conditioner is about 35g (1 ¼ oz). Sulphate of Iron can be applied every 4-6 weeks during the growing season from March to the end of August. Granules should be worked into the soil. During dry weather, water thoroughly before and after application.

For best results: When planting out your acid-loving trees and shrubs, use a dedicated compost.

Garden tip: Signs of iron deficiency can manifest with as chlorosis (yellowing) in the newest plant growth.

Trees and Shrubs

Apply 35g/sq.m (1¼ oz/sq.yd) around the base of established plants. Gently fork into the soil surface without disturbing the plant roots. Or alternatively, sprinkle the product over the soil surface, around the stem of the plant and water thoroughly.

When planting out apply 35g/sq.m (1¼ oz/sq. yd) to the bottom of the planting hole and mix well with the soil or compost when refilling the hole.

Flowers

Apply 35g/sq.m (1¼ oz/sq.yd) on the soil surface and fork in. Take care that the granules do not touch the plant leaves or stems. Water in well after application.
