Calendula Officinalis 'Candyman Orange' Marigold seeds are more commonly known as "Pot Marigold", "English Marigold" & "Marigold". This hardy, annual flowering plant promises to grow to an average height of around 25cm (9.8in) and a spread of around 30cm (11.8in).
Calendula Officinalis 'Candyman Orange' Marigold are the longest flowering and best double-flower pot marigold that T&M grew in their trial grounds. Sturdy, dwarf, multi-branching plants produce large, luminous blooms. They look great, and brighten summer borders and containers. The daisy-like flowers of Calendula 'Candyman Orange' are excellent for cutting, and can also be added to salads as an edible flower.
Garden tip: Some parts of these flowers are edible. The light peppery taste of the flowers can be added to breads for extra flavour and a touch of colour. Petals can also be used as a substitute for saffron when colouring rice dishes.

When Can I Sow Calendula Officinalis 'Candyman Orange' Marigold Seeds?
Direct Sowing Outside
You can direct sow Calendula seeds outdoors, where you want them to grow from April to May. To sow the seed direct:
- Choose a position in full sun on well drained soil which has been raked to a fine tilth.
- Sow seeds thinly, at a depth of 1 cm (1/2") in drills spaced 30cm (12") apart and cover seed with its own depth of soil to keep light out.
- Water the ground regularly, especially during dry periods.
- Germination usually takes 5-10 days.
- When calendula seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out to 30cm (12") apart.
Garden tip: Water seedlings regularly until plants are fully established.
Early Sowing Inside
Alternatively, sow Calendula indoors from March to April:
- Set a heated propagator up for a temperature of 18-23C (65-73F).
- Sow seeds sparingly as in the above instructions in a damp seed compost and cover with a layer of vermiculite or seed compost.
- When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant and grow them on in cooler conditions until large enough to plant outdoors.
Garden tip:For winter or early spring flowering, sow calendula in late summer or early autumn and grow plants on in a cool greenhouse or conservatory.
Sow seeds in January to March for planting out in spring, once the ground is warm enough. They'll flower from May right though to September.
Water regularly until plants are fully established.
Garden tip: Deadheading (removing dead flowers) will encourage the plant to produce more flowers for continuous blooms right through the season.
