What Is Westland Peat Free Houseplant Potting Compost Mix Enriched with Seramis?

Westland houseplant potting compost mix is easy to use, access and store. It contains all the essential nutrients for healthy growth and greener leaves.

Added Perlite and Enriched with Seramis

Added perlite promote an open, porous soil structure that supports your plant’s root zone. Perlite helps to avoid soil compaction and supports strong root growth. It works to increase airflow and humidity to create a beneficial microclimate. Seramis® provides water management as it absorbs and slowly releases water and dissolved nutrients.

The slimline, resealable pouch is designed to stand upright, so it is easy to find on shelves or any cupboard or where space is tight.

Why Do I Need Westland Peat Free Houseplant Potting Compost Mix?

It is a good idea to repot houseplants when they lose vitality or outgrow smaller pots. Plants will eventually deplete the nutrients in the potting medium and start to look worse for wear. To reinvigorate them, repot them or replenish the pots with fresh, nutrient-rich potting compost. Being Peat Free means Co2 remains locked in the earth.

Garden tip:

  • Your houseplants will benefit from fresh potting compost in the spring and autumn when they’re actively growing. The fresh nutrients available in new potting compost works to reinvigorate plants ready for new spring growth or gives them access to feed over winter.

How Do I Use Westland Peat Free Houseplant Potting Compost Mix?

The following procedure helps you to pot and re-pot your houseplants:

  • Water your plant well and allow it to drain.
  • Choose a pot with drainage holes around 3 - 5cm larger than the existing pot.
  • Place a layer of potting mix in the bottom of the new pot then carefully remove the plant from the existing pot.
  • Holding your plant upright in the middle of the pot, carefully fill backfill with potting mix around the sides of the root ball until the pot is full.
  • Tap the pot on a hard surface to settle the mix and water in well.

How Do I Feed and Westland Peat Free Houseplant Potting Compost Mix?

Feeding

Westland Peat Free Houseplant Potting Compost contains sufficient nutrients to feed plants for approximately six weeks. After this period, feed every second watering in the active growing season during the spring and summer and every fourth watering in the winter.

Feeding is easy with Miracle Gro® all-purpose liquid plant food and Miracle Gro® all-purpose soluble plant food nutrients.

Watering Houseplants

One of the main causes of houseplants failing is under and overwatering.

Overwatering Houseplants

Overwatering or poor drainage will result in plants sitting in water and will stunt plant growth and prevent air movement around the roots. It will lead to increased risk of pests and diseases like root rot, leaf yellowing and total loss or a shortened flowering period.

Underwatering Houseplants

Do not allow the compost to dry out completely, as this can cause damage to the plant and cause plant stress. During the summer, the best way to ensure your plants have adequate water available, regularly check your compost to see if it is still moist (less frequently in the cooler months).

Tips and Advice

The following advice intends to give you some pointers for better houseplants:

  • Place plants in bright positions, avoiding direct sunlight
  • Avoid large fluctuations in room temperatures – this can cause plants to drop its leaves
  • For better photosynthesis – treat houseplants to a leaf shine to remove dust

General Advice

  • This compost isn’t suitable for Ericaceous (lime hating) plants
  • Store in a dry, frost free place away from weed killers and other garden chemicals
  • Reseal bag after use
  • Use in a well ventilated place and avoid breathing in dust
  • Always wear gloves when gardening and wash hands after use
